The fast-approaching November '08 election has several citizens in quite a state. The most frequent comment being that neither candidate seems trustworthy.
For many McCain seems too old; in my experience age has nothing to do with it. Nelson Mandela was 76 when he became the first democratically elected President of South Africa in 1994 after years of struggles and physical ailments. He remained in power for two terms - and is still alive today.
For others Obama is just plain scary. He lives, eats, breathes and dreams about drastic change. These people are of the opinion that the volatile infrastructure of this country might not be able to withstand the beating. Change is only effective when instituted progressively. Otherwise, the changes made are clearly only for the benefit of those in power and not in the best interest of this nation.
But, it would seem that God has other plans. In a recent e-mail I read that Chuck Pierce and Greg Hood prophesied that the coming election is not about electing a President, per se, but that we are electing Vice President.
Now, before you get violent, let me express that an esteemed colleague, involved in "behind the scenes" politics for more than a decade and numerous degrees later advised me that no election is ever about the candidate but rather about the backing force behind said - think of the puppet master and you will understand more clearly.
Therefore, let us assume that this election truly is about Vice President. In each candidate we find qualities worth admiring.
In the case of Sarah Palin I am quite impressed with the fact that her beliefs are backed up by her actions. She is the perfect case study for "pro-life" because of her decision to keep her down-syndrome baby and consider it as a "gift from God". Not many women these days can honestly confess to this conviction.
In Biden's defence I must claim that his tenacity and drive are to be admired. It is not often boys follow through with their dreams into old-age. However, I am disturbed by a particular trait that I cannot ignore; Biden spoke vehemently against Obama but laid aside all his anguishes for the position of Vice President.
It is evident to me that Biden is concerned about his career and himself and that the goodwill of the nation is not as important to him as the former. He lacks a very important quality that I believe every succesful leader requires: INTEGRITY.
In James chapter one we are told of a double-minded man described as one who asks God for something but then doubts in his heart and that such a man should not expect a result from his prayer. His doubt will cancel his faith. Only one can win.
Perhaps my qualm does not seem as disturbing to all but to me the tiniest actions speak volumes. To me a man that can abandon his principles for a position so quickly is not a man to be trusted. Biden, however knowledgeable or experienced, is only interested in furthering his career.
America needs a leader with integrity. Integrity is created by motive. My message today? Choose wisely because you will be held responsible for your choice. Don't forget to pray for wisdom because the Bible warns that even the elect will be deceived. Go with your gut; trust your instinct and don't listen to fancy speeches - watch and pray.
